Liverpool Crush Sparta Prague in Europa League
Reds Win 4-1 Away in First Leg
Goals from Firmino, Salah, Mané, and Elliott
Liverpool put one foot in the Europa League quarter-finals with a dominant 4-1 victory away to Sparta Prague in the first leg of their last-16 tie on Thursday.
Roberto Firmino opened the scoring for the Reds in the 19th minute, with Mohamed Salah doubling their lead just before half-time. Sadio Mané and Harvey Elliott added further goals in the second half to give Liverpool a commanding advantage heading into the second leg at Anfield next week.
The victory extends Liverpool's unbeaten run in all competitions to 12 matches and keeps them firmly in contention for a third major trophy this season. The Reds are also in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and are just one point behind Manchester City in the Premier League title race.
Sparta Prague fought hard but were ultimately outclassed by a Liverpool side that was far superior in terms of quality and experience. The Czech side will need to produce a remarkable performance at Anfield if they want to have any chance of overturning the deficit.
